Carluccio's in Covent Garden

I'd be tempted to return more often if they had chicken and asparagus risotto on the menu instead of just a vegetarian version. The menu has plenty of choice but an old fashioned dish or two would be welcome such as veal in pizziaola sauce or chicken cacciatore.

My friends all went for the set lunch which was excellent value and no complaints. Most went for the chicken escalope. I shared the soft bread and olive oil dip ordered by one of my friends with lovely looking olives which I didn't try as there was no small plate for the stones. Mention of this was made by a few of us. The bread was lovely and so soft, as I just had a front filling and was nervous of eating bread.

I chose the liver from the a la carte. It was lovely and came medium rare but soon turned well done, perhaps because it was thin cut. I would order it again.

There was some mix up about our booking even though our organiser called into the restaurant the day before to check all would run smooth on the day. The serving staff were all efficient.

Carluccios at lunch time reminds me of school dinners, with lots of noise and no intimate atmosphere but it is very popular with ladies who lunch and the price is not over the top. http://carluccios.com/restaurants/london/covent-garden
